In typical team building games, women and men usually are mixed in groups. However there are cases where you need to separate men from women especially when tackling gender-sensitive issues. In typical games, usually men are the ones who will lead the groups but rarely are the women given the chance to lead. Also, there are objectives that empower women but unfortunately in most team building games, rarely are this addressed. It is therefore good to conduct team building games that empower women as well as an opportunity for them to lead and express themselves freely without hesitation. Here are some examples for team building games for women-only groupings.
Pajama Party
Even before, when women are still girls one of the most memorable experiences they have in their childhood is sleepovers at their girlfriends’ house. Even in women-only group this is an effective team building because it is a way where formality is gone. One participant usually hosts this and typically her house is the venue where the party will happen. Other participants will bring food and drinks while wearing their sleeping attire, thus the name pajama party. In this activity, women can freely share what they feel through guide questions or if preferred anyone can just share what they feel. Most women prefer this activity because it is very informal and a timely break from the very formal corporate world. To some, this could even be the only time they can share their emotional burdens and therefore a great team building activity.
Home Makeover
The objective of this team building activity is to bond over a common interest and that is home decoration. Since women love decorating and arranging anything, this activity brings out their creativity while making a house become more beautiful. This is also to make test whether they can improve something using existing materials. The participants first are divided into groups. Each group will then be assigned a specific area to work on. If the venue is a house, each group will then be assigned a room. In a limited time, the group has then to redecorate the place they are assigned to. This will bring out creativity as well as team work to accomplish the task at hand. After the allotted time expires, the most creative and most innovative design will win the game.
Movie Marathon
This is another team building for ladies. This is usually done before an actual movie marathon. The participants are divided into two groups. The first group will select a member which will be the one who will guess. The facilitator gives them sheets of paper which contains titles to popular movies. The group has then to act a scene from the movie so that their remaining member. They will be given two minutes to act and for their member to guess. The group is not allowed to talk while they act the movie. If the group fails to score after the time has expired, the other group can then steal and try to guess based on the other group’s act. The next group will do the same. After the titles of the movies have already been consumed, the group with the most number of points will be declared the winner. The prize of the winning team could be the privilege to select the first movie of their movie marathon.
Shopping Wisely
Girls really do love shopping and what’s a better way to bond them than telling them to shop. In this activity, team work is still the highlight but this could also be a way for women to improve their shopping skills. In this activity, the focus would be to buy girl’s apparel. After the girls have been divided into teams, the facilitator gives each group the same amount of cash. They then have to go to a mall or boutique or anywhere they want to buy clothes. There will still be a time limit for this activity so the teams have to buy nice but inexpensive clothes. After they have purchased their stuff, they have to wear it and pose as a team. There will be several criteria for winning the game. First, how much they spend and how were the able to save? Second, were they able to make it before the time limit? Third, how do they look on the dress that they brought? The first criteria would determine if they worked as a team and how they strategize to cut costs. The second criteria would be to improve their shopping skills knowing that girls would spend endless hours shopping. The third would be when under pressure, were they able to purchase beautiful yet inexpensive dressed? The winner will win additional shopping benefit in addition to the one’s they purchased.
Women have their own needs and team building activities must be sensitive to these needs. Through the games listed above, they are able to only develop their team capabilities, they get empowered and they improve themselves by learning points emphasized by each activity.
